Fostering and Placements

Team Manager, Fostering and Placements Team

I recently chaired a CIC Review at Lowther Home. I was impressed by the homely feel and the welcome I received from staff. The key worker for the young person was working hard at establishing a professional relationship with the young person. She clearly had an understanding of how childhood trauma impacted on a young person's emotional affected state. Andrea (key worker) was focussing on the positives and looking at incentives (not monetary) to try to engage her. She was realistic, open and transparent in her discussions with the young person. Lowther home was clearly working in partnership with the all the outside agencies involved in the young person's care, and communication was very good. I was struck by how professional the staff were at the home and they were out on the floor with the other young people. I observed Andrea talking to the young person about the risky situations they were putting herself in and the possible consequences. I felt the staff at Lowther home presented as being "switched on" and very professional. I understand they always check things out with the collaborating agencies, and follow the recommendations made at the review and placement meeting.
