How we care
Located in an idyllic setting, the home provides a safe environment in which a young person can develop physically, emotionally and socially, through support, encouragement and new life experiences.
We provide one-to-one care for a young person with particularly challenging needs. Each child has a keyworker and two co-keyworkers and we can call on specialist external support if required.
We work hard to form strong bonds with each young person, supporting and encouraging them at every stage. The goal is for the young person to progress to a home with other children. We are very proud that our young people have all progressed successfully to independent living.
Developing skills and interests
Each child who lives at The Rowans is encouraged to pursue their interests and develop new skills to help build confidence and self-esteem, including:
- sports – drawing on our close links with the local football, rugby and boxing clubs
- arts and crafts
- music and cooking.
Avon Heath Country Park
The Rowans is situated in a peaceful, rural area in the Avon Heath Country Park, within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is surrounded by forest and heathland, with native wildlife and grazing animals – great for nature walks, bird watching and night time stargazing.
Our young people can volunteer with the nearby rangers, helping with forestry, heath maintenance and other essential work.
Our children and young people can also benefit from personalised educational support with home-learning, or attending a traditional AQA accredited school environment. Our team of engagement workers ensure each child is educated at a level to suit their needs.
